20/08/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) pledged its support for the strike action being carried out by pilots of the airline Ryanair, in a press release published on Friday 17 August. “Workers throughout the EU are sick and tired of employers who (…) try to undermine hard fought-for rights by picking and choosing between national employment legislation”, said Luca Visentini, General Secretary of the organisation, who stressed that ETUC fully supports the European Transport Workers' Federation (ETF) and the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF). The airline, whose CEO, Michael O'Leary, has never made a secret of his hostility to the right to strike (see EUROPE 11517), has been hit by an unprecedented wave of strikes of Ryanair pilots for several months.
