20/08/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 7 August, the European Commission confirmed Malta’s participation in the enhanced cooperation for establishing the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO). The announcement was made in March (see EUROPE 11978), before being notified to the European Commission on 14 June. Some days earlier, the Netherlands officially joined the structure (EUROPE 12075). “I urge all remaining member states to join in. The more member states that participate in the EPPO, the stronger the Office will be”, said European Commissioner for Justice Vera Jourova, in a press statement. Twenty-two member states have now joined the body that will be responsible for combating European financial and VAT fraud in its cross-border dimension. It is due to be up and running by 2020. (MF)
