02/08/2018 (Agence Europe) – According to the Polish media on 2 August, Poland has rejected the Commission's concerns about the law on the Supreme Court, as formulated in a letter of formal notice on 2 July (see EUROPE 12053). According to these Polish media sources, Warsaw had a month to send in its response and it has complained that this deadline was too short, that the Commission had used a “doubtful legal basis” to launch this action and it did not have the remit to do so. The Polish Supreme Court is also said to have raised some preliminary questions with the Court of Justice of the EU on this new law that Brussels is opposing. According to Natasha Bertaud, the Commission’s spokesperon, the European Commission confirmed that it had received this response to its letter of formal notice on Thursday and would now “analyse” it.
