02/08/2018 (Agence Europe) – The new Chairman of Spain's People's Party, Pablo Casado, highlighted the need to bolster European cooperation in migration matters during his visit to the Spanish border cities of Algeciras and Ceuta. “Spain must be respected in the EU”, he said, calling for more European coordination in the defence of borders. He also expressed his support for the creation of a European 'Marshall Plan' for Africa, on the basis of the “Spanish model of cooperation with the countries of origin”. Casado was expected to defend this position at his meeting with the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, on Thursday 2 August, the day after the visit to Spain of the Commissioner for Migration, Dimitris Avramopoulos (see other article).
