31/07/2018 (Agence Europe) – Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones, who campaigned for keeping the United Kingdom within the European Union, confirmed in an interview with the daily Ouest France, on Tuesday 31 July, that he wished to create a Euro-region with Brittany in order to create a common area of interregional European cooperation after Brexit. He also spoke of his desire to lay the foundations for post-Brexit maritime cooperation that would cover the Irish Sea and part of the Channel, and in which Wales, Ireland and Brittany would participate. “The United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union only strengthens our desire to go further in this cooperation”, he stressed, before going on to add that Wales was fighting to safeguard its rights with regards fishing and agriculture in the face of control by London.
