European Court of Human Rights rules against Russia in Politkovskäia and Pussy Riot cases

On Tuesday 17 July, the European Court of Human Rights ruled against Russia twice, for having made no efforts to identify those who commissioned the murder of the investigative journalist Anna Politkovskäia in 2006 and for having handed out degrading treatment to the three members of the punk group Pussy Riot, whose freedom of expression and rights to a fair trial were also breached in 2012.
