17/07/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 17 July, the European Commission confirmed the visit of its President Jean-Claude Juncker to US President Donald J. Trump on Wednesday 25 July. The two leaders will discuss the "deep" cooperation between the European Union and the United States government and institutions across a wide range of issues, including foreign and security policy, counter-terrorism, energy security, and trade. Juncker's visit will focus on "improving transatlantic trade and forging a stronger economic partnership", the European Commission stated. Despite the US unilaterally raising tariffs on imports of steel and aluminium from the EU, and despite Trump threatening to hit imports of EU cars with 20% duties, the EU remains ready to discuss an agreement restricted to tariff liberalisation on industrial products, including cars and spare parts (see EUROPE 12049).
