On Thursday 21 June the Employment and Social Policy Council reached a political agreement in principle (“general approach”) on the regulation for the coordination of social security systems.
This agreement did not prevent significant friction in the chapter on social benefits, particularly between France and Luxembourg. Ultimately, Austria, Germany, Malta, Denmark, the Netherlands and Cyprus voted against, while Belgium and Luxembourg abstained.
