European Parliament calls on authorities to commute death penalty for Noura Hussein Hammad

In a resolution on human rights adopted in Strasbourg on Thursday 31 May with 455 votes in favour, 34 against and 140 abstentions, the European Parliament expresses its disapproval of the death penalty given to Noura Hussein Hammad and calls on the Sudanese authorities to commute this sentence immediately and to take full account of the fact that this young woman, condemned for murder, acted in legitimate self-defence.
