Several civil society organisations warmly welcome 3rd mobility package

In different press releases on 17 and 18 May, the European Cyclists’ Federation - (ECF), the International Road Transport Union (IRU) and the European Road Haulers Association (UETR) welcomed the European Commission proposals presented on Thursday 17 May as part of the 3rd “mobility” package (see EUROPE 12022).

The ECF particularly welcomed the two legislative proposals on vehicle safety and road infrastructure management. On the latter text, the ECF says that it is pleased with “the recognition of significance of provisions for vulnerable road users” and “welcomes the continuation of a fatality target, and the introduction of a serious injuries target”.

The UETR concentrated, above all, on the CO2 emissions targets for heavy duty vehicles which it described as “ambitious” and the draft directive on freight digitalisation. It explains that “New technologies and electronic documents must be also employed to reduce administrative burdens and at the same time to an effective and uniform enforcement of EU legislation”.

The IRU also welcomed the Commission proposal on CO2 emissions from heavy duty vehicles. It said the target is “ambitious” but is also based on an “holistic approach”. The IRU also warmly welcomes the proposals on freight digitalisation and vehicle safety.  (Original version in French by Lucas Tripoteau)
