18/05/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 17 May, the Commission sent letters of formal notice to Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania and the United Kingdom for their failure correctly to transpose certain requirements of Directive 2011/70/Euratom on spent fuel and radioactive waste. It also called on Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands, Poland Romania, Slovenia, Spain and United Kingdom to adopt national programmes for the management of spent fuel and radioactive waste management policy. The member states concerned now have two months to reply to the arguments advanced by the Commission or face being sent a reasoned opinion. (EH)
