18/05/2018 (Agence Europe) – The Galileo Reference Centre, the performance monitoring hub for the EU’s global satellite navigation system, was officially opened in Noordwijk, Netherlands on Wednesday 16 May, in the presence of Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Cora van Nieuwenhuizen and European GNSS Agency (GSA) Executive Director Carlo des Dorides. The Centre’s main role will be to ensure that the European navigation system maintains accuracy to within 20cm. The Centre will be operated by the GSA. Progress towards deployment of Galileo services in 2019 is advancing swiftly. Recently, Spain was awarded the Galileo Security Monitoring Centre which was initially sited in the United Kingdom but had to be relocated because of Brexit (see EUROPE 11942). (PH)
