The European Commission decided on Wednesday 16 May to appoint three further women to senior management posts, including two in Trade.
Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, a Danish national, was appointed Deputy Secretary General of the Commission, a post she has held on an interim basis since March. She has previously served as European Commission Spokeswoman from 1999 to 2009 and as Chief Spokeswoman of the Commission from 2009 to 2014.
The Commission appointed two further women to the posts of Deputy Director General in the external trade department. Sandra Gallina, an Italian national, and Helena König, a Swedish national, have been directors in this department since 2015.
The Juncker Commission points out that these appointments mean that it has now more than tripled the number of female deputy directors general. Women now hold 43% of deputy director general posts, compared with 11% in November 2014.
The Commission also extended the term of office of Marc Mouligneau as Director of the Office for Infrastructure and Logistics in Brussels (OIB) until 31 January 2019. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
