EU sanctions five people linked to organisation of Russian presidential elections in Crimea

On Monday 14 May, the EU Council sanctioned five people involved in the organisation of the Russian presidential elections of 18 March in the illegally annexed regions of Crimea and Sevastopol.

According to the Official Journal of the EU, these five people thus actively supported and implemented policies that compromise the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

The five people newly added to the EU sanctions list are the deputy chair of the Crimea electoral commission, Inna Nikolayevna Guzeyeva, the secretary of this commission, Natalya Ivanovna Bezrychenko, the chair of the Sevastopol electoral commission, Aleksandr Yurevich Petukhov, the deputy chair of this commission, Miroslav Aleksandrovich Pogorelov, and the secretary of this commission, Anastasiya Nikolayevna Kapranova.

These individuals are now subject to an assets freeze and visa ban due to their activities compromising or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

The decision brings the total number of individuals listed by the EU to 155 for their actions compromising the territorial integrity of Ukraine. In addition, the EU has frozen the assets of 38 entities under this sanctions regime.  (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
