15/05/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 15 May, the European Commission approved a Czech measure aiming to encourage the move from road freight to rail and river freight on national territory. The measure, with a price tag in the region of €16 million which will run until 31 December 2023, will more specifically provide financial support to intermodal transport operators to acquire assets dedicated to combined transport, for instance freight containers. The Czech State will cover up to 30% of eligible costs, including through the cohesion fund. The Commission considers that the measure is necessary to improve the competitiveness of intermodal transport services and proportionate and therefore concludes that it is compatible with EU state aid rules.
