Shortcomings highlighted in Indian fisheries products control system

15/05/2018 (Agence Europe)An EU Food and Veterinary Office (FVO) report published on 8 May has revealed that there are shortcomings in the Indian official control system for fisheries products exported to the EU. The FVO states that the official control system currently in place should be capable of providing adequate assurance that such exports meet many of the requirements set out in the EU health certificate. However, the weaknesses of the system (with regard to aquaculture farms for domestic production which, in many instances, share the same water and streams as farms providing material for export), both in terms of the control system’s coverage as well as in its implementation, “do not allow the competent authorities to provide, and attest to, all the guarantees set out in the EU health certificate”.
