03/05/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 2 May, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini hailed the agreement announced earlier in the day concerning the election of Armenia's new prime minister on 8 May during her phone call with the country's President Armen Sargsyan. During their phone call they discussed recent developments in Armenia and Sargsyan's efforts to "find a solution to the current situation with a view to the democratic formation of a new government, in accordance with the Constitution and in the interest of all Armenians", the European External Action Service stated in a press release. After several days of protest, the prime minister, Serzh Sargsyan, resigned, but the leader of the opposition, Nikol Pashinyan, did not obtain enough votes in parliament to take his place (see EUROPE 12013).
