27/04/2018 (Agence Europe) – Secondary cities represent considerable leverage to reinforce regional convergence within the EU, according to a World Bank report which was presented to the members of the committee on regional development on Wednesday 25 April. The report, which is slated for publication in May, shows that the “convergence machine” is still working within the EU, but has been weakened by the crisis. It also shows that the future cohesion policy must focus on short-term and long-term objectives, make better use of regional specifics whilst improving the economic environment and laying emphasis on skills and supporting administrative structures.
