Informal meeting of the health ministers. – Healthy diets for children. – effectiveness, availability and accessibility of medicines, taking account of the need to keep healthcare systems viable from a financial point of view. – The future of healthcare in the EU.
  • Toronto (Canada). Council of the EU and Commission. Attendance of the meeting of the foreign affairs and security ministers of the G7, meeting to discuss the theme “Building a more peaceful and secure world”.
  • Brussels. European Parliament. Activities of the committees (to 26/04). – BUDG-CONT: vote on the results of the inter-institutional negotiations on the revision of the financial regulation. – ITRE: structured dialogue with Vice-President Katainen on the negotiations underway on the European Defence Industrial Development Programme, industrial policy activities and preparations for the post-2020 programmes. – PETI: examination of petitions (air quality and pollution).

Tuesday 24 April

Second conference on aid for the future of Syria and the countries of the region (and 25/04) co-chaired by the EU and the UN. – Mobilisation of humanitarian aid for the region and political support for the UN-led process: dialogue with NGOs working in Syria, Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan to collect information. – On the sidelines of the conference: event on the EU trust fund in response to the Syrian crisis and various events.
  • Brussels. European Parliament. Activities of the committees. - IMCO: examination of the amendments to the draft report on the free movement of non-personal data. – PETI: examination of petitions (vote of British citizens before and after Brexit). – TERR: public hearing with experts on the prevention of radicalisation and tackling the phenomenon. – AFET-INTA: public hearing with experts on strategies for EU-China relations. – BUDG-ENVI: hearing experts on the subject “The EU budget and the Paris Climate Agreement”. ECON: public hearing on the future system of VAT in the EU. – JURI: public hearing on the ‘Judgements Project’ of The Hague in the framework of negotiations for a global Convention on the recognition and enforcement of judgements in civil and commercial matters.

Thursday 26 April

  • Luxembourg. *Court of Justice of the EU. #Judgments: *General Court of the EU: #Judgments: C-34/17 (Donnellan – Refusal of a person to pay an administrative fine demanded by a member state 10 years after the fact). – Joined cases C-233/16 and C-237/16 (ANGED – Compatibility with the freedom of establishment of certain taxes imposed on major retailers by certain Spanish autonomous communities). #Conclusions: C-17/17 (Grenville Hampshire – Must a member state ensure that each employee receives at least 50% of the value of his or her acquired pension rights in the event that the employer becomes insolvent?).
