11/04/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 11 April, European Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans reiterated his satisfaction that the Polish authorities are now engaging in a "true dialogue" and showing real resolve to reach a solution on the rule of law. Timmermans informed the college of commissioners about his visit to Poland on Monday, where he met the prime minister and also other figures from the judicial system (see EUROPE 11996). He had already praised Warsaw's resolve, on Monday, to reach a solution. On Wednesday, he stated that certain amendments presented by the Polish parliament, especially regarding the age of retirement for male and female judges, were designed to respond to the Commission's concerns. But he reiterated his desire for other decisive steps to be taken in "the coming days or weeks". (SP)
