Advocate General clarifies conditions for awarding residency rights to non-EU partner in member state of origin of a European citizen

When a European citizen returns to his or her member state of origin, the member state is required to favour the entry and residency in that country of his or her non-EU partner, even if they are not married. However, this obligation does not confer automatic rights of residency.

These are the main conclusions returned by Advocate General Michal Bobek in case C-89/17 on Tuesday 10 April.
