14/03/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 14 March, an EU spokesperson called on the Philippines to reverse its decision to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), saying that the EU hopes the Philippines will reconsider its decision and fully cooperate with the court. The spokesperson told EUROPE that everyone had a common interest in strengthening the rule of law and working together with the ICC. The ICC has recently been examining the Philippines’ deadly anti-drugs policy and President Rodrigo Duterte announced on 13 March that his country was reversing its ratification of the Rome Statute with immediate effect. The EU spokesperson added that when concerns are raised under the Rome Statute, the EU is open to constructive dialogue. (CG)
