09/03/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF), the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF), the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims (FEVR) and the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) call, in a joint statement issued on 6 March, for the co-legislators not to relax the resting time rules for bus and coach drivers, which was recommended in a European Commission proposal on revising of Regulation 561/2006 unveiled on 31 May 2017 as part of the first mobility package (see EUROPE 11799). The review considers allowing bus and coach drivers to accumulate two reduced weekly rest times (of 24 hours) and thus to work for three weeks with two 24-hour breaks. The organisations say that this could have a negative impact on road safety. (LT)
