Aviation unions determined to continue their action against attempts to limit the right to strike

22/02/2018 (Agence Europe)Almost 70 Union representatives affiliated to the European Transport Workers' Federation (ETU) and the Air Traffic Controllers European Unions' Coordination (ATCEUC) held a meeting on Thursday 22 February in Brussels to discuss their future action as part of the “Our Rights -Your Safety” campaign launched on 20 November 2017 (see EUROPE 11908). This campaign is opposing the European Commission’s communication of 8 June last on public service obligations in the aviation sector (see EUROPE 11804), which the unions interpret as an attempt by the institution to limit the right to strike in the European Union. The participants at this meeting were keen to point out that, “The right to strike is a fundamental right and cannot be restricted by the Commission in any way”(LT)
