22/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 22 February, the Greek Parliament decided to set up a committee of inquiry into the allegations of bribes from the Swiss-based pharmaceutical group Novartis to ten or so political leaders when they were in office, including European Migration Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos when he was serving as Greece's health minister between 2006 and 2009. Also, among the politicians called into question and listed by protected witnesses in a mainly American investigation are a former conservative prime minister, Antonis Samaras, and the current governor of the Bank of Greece, Yannis Stournaras. Avramopoulos has launched legal proceedings for slander. Greek media reported the previous day that Greece's Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras promised justice would be dispensed. (SP)
