20/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament special committee which will have nine months in which to shed full light on the procedure for assessing pesticides in the EU, and on possible failings, has been officially named the “PEST” committee. However, on Tuesday 20 February, there was still no-one to fill the chair. The S&D political group bureau meeting, due to take place on Tuesday to make its choice, was deferred until Wednesday (see EUROPE 11963). Parliament's administrators allowed themselves to be convinced, on Monday evening, to keep the name of “PEST” for the committee to the great satisfaction of French MEP Eric Andrieu – who is a candidate for the post of chairman. The constitutive meeting of the special committee could take place on 27 February at the earliest, says a source familiar with the issue. (AN)
