European Parliament wants EU to impose sanctions directly on Maduro and his inner circle

The Parliament wants “appropriate” European sanctions – already adopted against seven Venezuelan officials – to be “extended to those mainly responsible for worsening the political, social, economic and humanitarian crisis, namely the president (Maduro), the vice-president, the minister of defence and the members of the high military command”, according to a common resolution by the EPP, ECR and ALDE Groups adopted on Thursday 8 February (see EUROPE 11944).
