In conclusions submitted to the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) on Wednesday 10 January concerning case C-266/16, Advocate General Melchior Wathelet ruled that the partnership agreement in the fisheries sector (the “fisheries agreement”) concluded in 2016 between the EU and Morocco runs counter to EU law and therefore declared it invalid, on grounds of its application to the Western Sahara and its surrounding waters.
