The European Commission is proposing to lower the authorised value limits for using bisphenol A (BPA) in materials that enter into contact with food. On Thursday 11 January, MEPs at the environment committee could possibly call for a total ban on this chemical substance in food packaging for reasons relating to public health.
This is the goal in the draft objection to the European Commission's proposal for a regulation, which will be put to a vote by the MEPs.
