12/12/2017 (Agence Europe) – In Strasbourg on Tuesday 12 December, the MEPs agreed on the renewal, for five years, of the mandate of the Chair of the Single Resolution Board (SRB), Germany's Elke König, who was appointed to this position in 2014 for an initial period of three years (see EUROPE 11915). In early December, the candidate attended a hearing before the committee on economic and monetary affairs of the European Parliament, which approved the renewal by a very large majority (see EUROPE 11918). Voting by secret ballot, the MEPs approved the decision by 480 votes to 121 with 47 abstentions. The Council must now adopt an implementing decision to extend König's mandate from 24 December 2017.
