European Commission allocates €28 million from cohesion policy for Umbria region in Italy

21/11/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 21 November, the European Commission announced that it is allocating €28 million from the cohesion policy budget to the Umbria region that was struck by several violent earthquakes in 2016 and 2017. The funds come from an additional envelope of €1.6 billion for cohesion policy as part of a technical adjustment, explained the European Commission. A press release explains that its aim is to: enhance earthquake resilience in schools and energy efficiency, as well as support local companies and finance the restoration of cultural heritage, including the San Benedetto Basilica in Norcia. (PH)
