At the end of the Education, Culture and Youth Council, Mr Navracsis stated, “A culture of good governance would help protect the sport sector and restore lost confidence”. He added, “We launched an initiative calling on sports organisations to make a commitment to principles of good governance. 46 organisations signed it but we would like the others to join initiative”. He also highlighted the societal role sport played in the transmission of values, particularly in a context characterised by migration challenges in the European Union.
Launched in 2016, the European initiative was signed by organisations such as the UEFA, the European Handball Federation and the Slovak Olympic Committee.
The President of the Olympics Committee, Thomas Bach, attended the debates and described sport as a “universal language” capable of transmitting numerous values. He praised the educating role played by trainers who, “for the majority of time, was underestimated”.
Culture. The European Ministers for Culture also adopted conclusions on the contribution made by information technologies to increasing audiences.
