14/11/2017 (Agence Europe) – In a press release dated on Monday 13 November, the International Road Transport Union (IRU) said that it considered that the European Commission proposal on combined transport, presented on Wednesday 8 November as part of the second “mobility” package (see EUROPE 11900), did not refer to the need to improve the multimodal and logistic transport network. The IRU also considers that the text aims to ensure the use of alternative modes of transport instead of freight transport and that such a policy would not produce the results it hoped for. Although the IRU welcomes the redefinition of combined transport, it is still concerned that the text does not deliver sufficient clarity, fairer competition, more efficiency or the correct implementation of Union rules.
