06/11/2017 (Agence Europe) – The 23rd UN climate conference (COP23) opened in Bonn on Monday 6 November (see EUROPE 11897), and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) is demanding three things from it: - to take account of the job creation potential of the fight against climate change; - to finance climate action to support the most vulnerable people; - to ensure a just transition for workers. The ITUC says experts and politicians must take account of the employment-related aspects of their climate policies by introducing a social dialogue mechanism at national, regional and company level. The organisation points out that it has set up a Just Transition Centre to help companies, trade unions, governments and all other stakeholders to introduce zero carbon and low-carbon plans. (PH)
