06/11/2017 (Agence Europe) – Upon his arrival in Brussels on Monday 6 November, the Slovak finance minister, Peter Kazimir, said that he was interested in the chairmanship of the Eurogroup, the informal body of the Eurozone finance ministers. “I'm interested in becoming the chairman of the Eurogroup, but I'm not a candidate yet”, he said. The ministers throwing their hats into the ring to take over from the outgoing chairman, Jeroen Dijsselbloem of the Netherlands, will be announced two weeks before the Eurogroup meeting of Monday 4 December, when the decision will be made, to take up position in January 2018. In the meantime, Dijsselbloem, who is paid by the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), will see out his term in office, although he is no longer officially the Dutch finance minister (see EUROPE 11882).
