23/10/2017 (Agence Europe) – Eight member states – Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden and United Kingdom – have urged the European External Action Service (EEAS) to increase the capacity of its teams to tackle disinformation. In a letter to EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, dated 12 October and seen by EUObserver on 20 October, the eight say that “in the face of unabated third party disinformation campaigns (…) we see an urgent need to further enhance the EU’s StratCom capabilities”. They believe that the three teams (for the eastern and southern neighbourhoods and for the Western Balkans) should be adequately financed and have “sufficient resources” to be able to buy “innovative technologies, such as media analysis, risk assessment, and big data instruments”.
