18/10/2017 (Agence Europe) – In a press release published by the Belgian FGTB union on Tuesday 17 October, Maria Arena MEP (S&D, Belgium) stood against the text that was adopted in the European Parliament's employment and social affairs (EMPL) committee on Monday (see EUROPE 11884). The text was nevertheless partly carried by a Social Democrat MEP, Agnes Jongerius (Netherlands), its co-rapporteur. "I will oppose the new proposal negotiated by the Parliament because it is not ambitious enough and is unacceptable as regards the 24-month period of posting", she said. In Arena's view, the directive does not respond to the current challenges because the posting periods vary between three and five months. Next week will be a key week for the draft review as the text has to be approved by Parliament and goes to the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO) on Monday 23 October.
