16/10/2017 (Agence Europe) – On the day after the terrorist lorry bomb attack in Mogadishu, the worst attack ever committed in Somalia, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, expressed her, “deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wish a full recovery to those injured in the attacks”. In a press release she added, “At this critical political juncture in the history of Somalia, the European Union reaffirms its long-term commitment to the country and its people”. She also emphasised how crucial it was that the government “remains united to defeat terrorism and strengthen security”. The attack left at least 300 dead and more than 300 wounded but at midday on Monday, no one had as yet claimed responsibility but the Shebab organisation is strongly suspected of carrying it out. (AN)
