16/10/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 16 October, the Foreign Affairs Council hailed the joint communication ("Elements for an EU strategy on Afghanistan") from the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and the European Commission (see EUROPE 11835). In the conclusions they adopted without debate, the ministers consider that this communication defines a path for a coherent, ambitious and future-oriented strategy on the EU's dialogue and cooperation with Afghanistan – the objective being to address the considerable challenges with which the country is faced. The ministers add that the strategy reaffirms the long-term commitment of the EU and its member states to fostering peace, stability and prosperity in Afghanistan, and to supporting its sustainable development.
