Commission extends EU resettlement offer to 50,000 people and calls for new legal channels for economic migration

On Wednesday 27 September, the European Commission called on the member states to commit to taking in 50,000 refugees currently in Libya, the Sudan, Niger and even Egypt and Ethiopia.

This resettlement exercise is not compulsory for member states and will be staggered over a two-year period.
