On Monday 24 July, the European Commission launched a public consultation aiming to identify ways of reducing the cost of cross-border payments carried out in currencies other than euro within the EU.
Although Regulation 924/2009 already imposes equal charges for cross-border and national payments in euro in the EU, payments involving EU currencies other than euro do not fall within its scope of application.
