EU28 experts approve Commission proposal to reduce presence of acrylamide in foodstuffs

On Wendesday 19 July, a first step was taken to reduce the risks of consumers being exposed to acrylamide, a carcinogenic food contaminant. Member state representatives meeting at the EU’s Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (PAFF) approved the European Commission proposal to reduce the presence of this substance in foodstuff, which the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) had recognised as carcinogenic.
