British Secretary of State for International Trade Liam Fox and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer will meet in Washington on Monday 25 and Tuesday 25 July as part of the first session of the working group on trade and investment between the UK and USA. The group aims to explore the possibilities for a bilateral post-Brexit free trade agreement.
"The early discussions will focus on laying the groundwork for commercial continuity for US and UK businesses as the UK leaves the EU and exploring possible ways to strengthen trade and commercial ties", according to a US source cited by Reuters.
At the end of January, British Prime Minister Theresa May and US President Donald Trump agreed to start talks for a UK-US free trade agreement immediately after Brexit (see EUROPE 11714). (Original version in French by Emmanuel Hagry)
