12/07/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 12 July, the European Parliament’s civil liberties committee (LIBE) endorsed the compromise reached on 29 June with the Maltese presidency of the Council of the EU on the entry/exit system for third country travellers in the EU (see EUROPE 11820). The system seeks to speed up and strengthen controls of non-EU travellers at the EU’s borders. They will register information (name, fingerprints, facial imaging, date and place) during the entries and exits of non-Community nationals crossing Schengen external borders, including those with Bulgaria and Romania. It will also register cases of rejected entry. (SP)
