21/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 21 June, MEPs at the European Parliament’s industry, research and energy committee endorsed the trialogue agreement reached with the other European institutions on the Wifi4EU initiative (see EUROPE 11798). This project seeks to finance free Internet access in towns and villages and public places in all member states (particularly libraries, parks, hospitals). It approved the budgetary envelope worth €120 million initially proposed by the European Commission in September 2016 (see EUROPE 11624). The plenary vote is planned for September. (SPj)
