09/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – The social policy commission (SEDEC) of the Committee of the Regions voted almost unanimously on Thursday 8 June to adopt the opinion drafted by Ulrike Hiller (PES, Germany) on coordinating social security systems. In the opinion, the commission stresses the importance of regional advisory and support networks for mobile workers. The commission also highlights the role that border regions can play in addressing the lack of data and information on cross-border mobile workers. Overall, the opinion supports all the European Commission’s proposals but adds being wage-earning to the possible conditions for receiving social and family benefits in member states. (PH)
