09/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – In an opinion returned on Tuesday 30 May, the committee on culture and education (CULT) of the European Parliament argues that whistleblowers should be protected, as long as the principles of business secrecy and the protection of sensitive commercial information are guaranteed. The report, by Krasnodębski Zdzisław (ECR, Poland), was not at all to the liking of the S&D group, which did not back the text during the vote. The controversial issue of business secrecy resurfaces as a reminder of the lengthy debates that marked the decision-making process over the 'business secrecy' directive (see EUROPE 11532). (PH)
