According to a report by the EU Food and Veterinary Office (FVO) published on Tuesday 30 May, Italy has an adequate and effective official control system in place, covering fishery products and their production chain.
During their mission carried out from 21 November to 1 December 2016, the inspectors concluded that the control system put in place allows the competent authority to provide adequate guarantees with regard to the requirements of the EU on fishery products.
The audit report concludes that all recommendations from the previous audit in 2010 on fishery products have been addressed. However, the FVO report does note weaknesses in the performance of the official controls in relation to the assessment of the hazards analysis and critical control point plans as regards certain critical points.
