European Parliament calls on Harare to lift its politically motivated charges against pastor Evan Mawarire

In a joint resolution from the EPP, S&D, ECR and ALDE Groups adopted on Thursday 16 March, the European Parliament deplores the Zimbabwean authorities' arrest of pastor and human rights defender Evan Mawarire in Harare on 1 February, on his return from forced exile.

Mawarire – whose independent social movement #ThisFlag catalysed the frustration of citizens towards Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe at the 2016 demonstrations against the government's inaction on corruption, impunity...
