16/03/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 16 March, MEPs adopted the draft report by Ramón Jáuregui Atondo (S&D, Spain), without amending it. This report identifies the advantages (possible increased participation of citizens, increasing the availability of information) and challenges (security and the protection of private life) linked to the use of new information technologies, whilst exercising democratic rights. MEPs call on, “the European institutions to commit themselves to a participative process in an effort to draw up a European Charter of Internet rights”. These will include Internet access and net neutrality, whilst using the specific declaration of the Italian parliament in July 2015 as a reference point. (MB)
